Hi everybody, I just joined this community. I've started reading the Chronicles of Lymond and I'm so passionate about these books that I feel the need to share my obsession with other people :) - I read The Game of Kings and Queen's Play and I'm now onto the third book. The books are not easy to read (and English is not my mother-tongue! I'm Italian) but are truly fascinating. At the moment I seem to spend a lot of time thinking about who could play the part of Lymond if a film was ever made. Any idea?
Welcome, bluekaty! Yes, they're definitely books that make a reader feel passionate! :D I'm impressed that you read them in English. They're difficult books even for native English speakers to read! But yes, they are fascinating, and totally gripping.I tend to favor Peter O'Toole (when he was younger). What actors do you have in mind?
Jason Connery (when he was younger) seems to be very close to the mental image I have of Lymond but Peter O'Toole would also be good (his eyes are definitely Lymond's!)- however neither of them could play him if a film was made now (even Connery would be too old I think), that's why I was asking, I was wondering if there is an actor around now who would be right in terms of age and looks but I cannot think of anybody :(They're difficult books even for native English speakers to read Well, I actually only read The Game of Kings in English and I must admit I struggled a bit at first, but once I was in it I was OK. Now I'm waiting tor ead the other ones in original, I read the second and third in Italian because I just couldn't wait!Edited at 2008-03-18 01:38 pm (UTC)
I kind of like the way JJ Feild looks, but I don't know if he could act the part of Lymond. It would be an enormous demand. I don't quite know if anyone could do it right to satisfy me.Small JJ Feild picspamAnd my favorite Lymondish pic of him:But really - I don't WANT them to ever attempt a movie or even a miniseries, because I'm sure they'd get things WRONG and it would irritate me. Plus, strangely enough, I LIKE having the books be somewhat secret, not popular. In the Lord of the Rings books, I liked Legolas best, but then the movie came out and EVERYBODY had a crush on Legolas because he was Orlando Bloom... and I was annoyed because I didn't want to SHARE him. I liked him BEFORE he was Orlando Bloom. Hmph! (Actually I liked Frodo best, but I liked Legolas best of the non-Frodo characters). But sometimes I daydream about a Lymond opera cycle, and I pick out singers for the roles... :DParlo un poco di Italiano, ma non posso leggere i libri italiani! Ho letto un libro (Pinocchio, per i bambini), ed era difficile per me! :P
I didn't know JJ Field before seeing him here but he could be a good Lymond I think (well, he looks hot in any case so thanks for sharing!)- I understand your reservations about a screen version of the series, they are almost always unsatisfactory, although I must say I liked "The Lord of the Rings" and the latest BBC Version of "Pride and Prejudice" was really good.Congratulations on your Italian, your sentence is perfect! Pinocchio may be for children (in the same way that Huck Finn is for children) but it's not an easy book at all, if you can read it you are pretty good, brava! :)
Hello! :)Another non-native speaker who adores the books. Welcome!I've thought about this for a while now, but I really can't think of any actor who I think could portray Lymond... actually I'm inclined to believe that he could never be transferred to screen anyway. They would have to shorten and change dialogue and stories and I'd probably hate it. But people have said this about Lord of the Rings, too, so... ;)
Well, they would have to cut a lot of stuff and maybe the final result would not be very satisfactory as you say, perhaps a mini-series would be better. I like your icon BTW :)
Now a mini-series might work better than a film... Yes.(We need more Lymond icons!)
